Corneal cross-linking helps to stabilise eye diseases such as keratoconus.<\/p>\n<h4>CXL procedure<\/h4>\n<p>The procedure to stabilize the cornea \u2013 corneal cross-linking \u2013 consists of two steps.<br \/>\nIn a first step, riboflavin (vitamin B2) is applied to the eye. Subsequently, the cornea is exposed to ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 365 nanometres.<br \/>\nThe aim of this procedure is to enhance the stability of the cornea through the formation of new crosslinks between the collagen fibres of the cornea.
