Dr. Stodulka at the Copenhagen Congress: New Technologies in Eye Surgery

Last weekend, Copenhagen turned into the world capital of ophthalmology. More than 15,000 specialists came together for the ESCRS Congress – today the largest international event focused on eye surgery.

This year’s meeting had a particularly global spirit. Over 200 Brazilian surgeons joined thanks to closer cooperation with colleagues in South America, with several of them receiving awards for outstanding surgical videos. On behalf of ESCRS, Italian colleague Lucio Burrato received a prize for his work on intraocular lens design from Dr. Stodulka.

Innovation in Focus

A real highlight was Saturday’s Near-Live Surgery Session, which drew more than a thousand attendees to the main hall. Among the cases presented was a complex cataract operation after uveitis, where the innovative CapsuLaser technology was used – developed by a California start-up together with Dr. Pavel Stodulka. For added precision, the “Trypan Central Landmark” method was applied, which Dr. Stodůlka and his team discovered and published some years ago.

The congress was not only about science and surgery. A new interactive discussion format called ARENA sparked lively debates, and those looking for balance could join a 5-kilometer run on Saturday morning – a perfect chance to release stress and recharge.

Events like this highlight the importance of sharing knowledge, embracing innovation, and building international collaboration. Dr. Pavel Stodůlka is a member of the executive board of ESCRS, one of the most respected international organizations in ophthalmology.
