ReLEx Smile

The ReLEx Smile method is a particularly gentle method for correcting short-sightedness. The 3D femtosecond laser VisuMax of the German manufacturer Carl Zeiss is used. The special feature of this method is that there is no flap formation.

In Vienna and the surrounding area, Gemini is currently the only eye clinic that eliminates such dioptric defects using this technology.

Procedure

In the first step, a femtosecond laser is used to create a lenticular tissue part in the inner cornea. At the same time, the laser creates a small tunnel-shaped incision through which the lens can then be removed. The removal of the lens changes the curvature of the cornea and eliminates myopia.

Advantages

The ReLEx Smile Method is an outpatient procedure that is performed within a few minutes. Only a small incision is made, which greatly reduces the risk of infection and the feeling of dryness in the eyes after the operation. In addition, there are no postoperative complications due to any displacement of the flap.

Limitations

The ReLEx Smile method can only be used to treat short-sightedness and astigmatism. The best result is achieved when myopia is between -3 and -10 dioptres.
